Lyburn Cheese named best British cheese

9 December 2024 Member News

Lyburn Farmhouse Cheesemakers have just scooped the Best British Cheese award at the World Cheese Awards 2024!

We’re very excited to have world-renowned cheesemakers Lyburn Farmhouse Cheesemakers as part of the Wiltshire Marque, and their win at the World Cheese Awards is a fantastic achievement.

The title was awarded to their Stoney Cross cheese, which is described as “creamy, buttery in texture, sweet flavours, with a distinctly earthy finish.” Named after an WWII airfield just a few miles from the Lyburn farm, it is a semi-firm, subtle cheese that suits a wide variety of palates. You can buy Stoney Cross at a variety of local producers, as well as in several Waitrose stores across the South.

The World Cheese Awards take place every year, with this year’s ceremony hosted at Pavilhão Multiusos de Viseu in Portugal. Over 4,700 cheeses from over 40 countries were assessed by expert judges, taking into account the appearance of the rind and paste, aroma, body, texture, and importantly, mouthfeel and flavour.

Lyburn’s Old Winchester and Lightly Oak Smoked cheeses also earned bronze accolades at the awards – a brilliant outcome.
